We believe in the power of connection, mentorship, and growing together. Behn Reith, one of our brilliant CNO Fellows, is a shining example of this. Over the past year, Behn has embraced every opportunity to learn, lead, and bring his whole self to work — from deep conversations about career progression and clinical practice to lighter moments bonding over a shared love of food. Now thriving as a Deputy Charge Nurse at the Hampshire Orthopaedic Centre, Behn continues to make a real impact. His journey reflects what HHFT is all about: supporting our people to grow, lead, and inspire — every step of the way.
We’re absolutely delighted to share that Katy has been accepted onto the Occupational Therapy Degree Apprenticeship, starting this September!
Katy has been a valued member of the Trust for over five years, joining just before the pandemic as a Healthcare Support Worker. In July 2022, she stepped into the role of Macmillan Rehab Assistant Practitioner, where her passion for rehabilitation truly began to flourish.
Through her work, Katy saw first-hand how rehab can transform lives and improve quality of life for patients — and it was in those moments that she found her calling. 💙
With the support and mentorship of our fabulous physio Emily, Katy made the inspiring decision to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy.
Her recent interview with the University of Winchester was made even more special by the presence of one of our patients, Bob (pictured with Katy), who kindly joined her to share their perspective — a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do.
A massive thank you to Bob for being part of this journey, and to the University of Winchester for embracing such a compassionate and inclusive approach to training future OTs. It’s clear that patients' voices are not just heard but truly valued.
We’re so proud of you, Katy — your journey is just beginning, and we can’t wait to see all that you’ll achieve!
At Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT), we’re proud to celebrate the incredible people who bring energy, compassion, and innovation to our teams every day. Take Sarah Wilson, our inspiring music therapist, kindly funded by the charity George’s Rockstars — in just three months, she’s made a remarkable impact across our neonatal and paediatric wards. Her passion for music therapy and the wellbeing of our patients shines through in everything she does. Stories like Sarah’s reflect the spirit of HHFT: we welcome fresh ideas, support unique talents, and create space for people to thrive. When you join us, you’re not just part of a team — you’re part of a Trust that truly values what you bring.
The chief nurse fellowship has been so helpful in preparing me for the future to become an inspiring leader. I have acquired so many skills and tools and made many connections that I can take forward into my career. You undertake a quality improvement project with assistance from your workplace mentor, a CNO coach and a quality improvement coach. There are lots of quality improvement workshops to guide you through the process. They encourage you to attend courses that you may not be aware of via online action learning sets are a great way to open up and engage with colleagues and help navigate through challenges you may be experiencing.
My favourite workshop was the colours training, where you can discover more about yourself and other people’s working and private personalities. You additionally work through a portfolio to assist with your learning. I would recommend this fellowship to anyone who wishes to grow themselves professionally with a view to lead a team.
A radiographer who last year completed the SoR’s Leadership Mentoring Scheme has been nominated within her trust for a leadership award.
Hannah Brown, interventional lead radiographer at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, was nominated for the Hampshire Hospitals People Awards in the Leadership Category and received a Certificate of Recognition, which recognises an individual who demonstrates excellent leadership skills that inspire and motivate others.
Last year, Hannah completed the Leadership Mentoring Scheme (LMS), the SoR’s initiative to give radiographers the opportunity to learn from experienced leaders in the profession and develop their own leadership capabilities.
Hannah said: “Upon learning of my nomination I felt a sense of pride and job satisfaction – leading a team and a service can, at times, be incredibly challenging due to the current pressures being faced by the NHS. It is easy to become so involved in the day to day clinical requirements and feel like you have lost touch with the other areas of leadership which are so important.
“Reading through my nomination it became clear that whilst on occasions it may feel like this, my personal drive to deliver change and provide support and development opportunities for my staff is clearly recognised and appreciated.”
Her nomination emphasised: “Hannah has the enthusiasm to drive the radiology department forward through her desire to mentor and develop all staff within radiology. Hannah has personally mentored me into a much improved radiographer, improving my communication skills, interpersonal skills, and improved my confidence in my ability as a radiographer.
“We are very lucky to have Hannah in our department, she is an asset to radiology and the wider trust.”
We’re proud to invest in cutting-edge technology that enhances patient care and empowers our teams. A recent visit to our Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester offered a glimpse into this commitment, where our brand-new Siemens MRI scanner is already transforming cardiac imaging. While the science behind it may be complex, the enthusiasm and expertise of our imaging team were unmistakable. It’s this energy — combined with access to advanced equipment — that makes HHFT a place where talented professionals want to grow their careers. We also love celebrating our people, like Laura Corsinovi, one of our much-loved HHFT legends, whose dedication continues to inspire those around her.
We love celebrating the incredible achievements of our people. Recently, two of our outstanding physiotherapy colleagues — Louise Darrah and Titilayo Alemika — were recognised for their exceptional impact on patient care and leadership. Their dedication earned them an invitation to a special tea party hosted by the Mayor of Basingstoke, alongside other HHFT stars. This celebration came just days after World Physiotherapy Day, a timely reminder of the vital role physiotherapists play in helping patients live healthier, more independent lives. Louise and Titilayo truly embody the spirit of HHFT — compassionate, committed, and proud to fly the AHP flag high.
Giving Students a Voice!
We’re proud to champion student voices across NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight through our Student Council — a vital platform that ensures students are recognised as an integral part of our workforce.
Our council includes 14 multi-professional seats, open to pre-registration healthcare students and apprentices training to become Registered Nurses, Nursing Associates, Midwives, Allied Health Professionals, Healthcare Scientists, or Pharmacists within our Trusts.
In 2024/25 we successfully transitioned to a locally-led model, engaged in over 30 collaborative meetings, ran 5 core projects and had the opportunity to participate in 10 locally-led or regional leadership and development events. Some of our members contributed to the recently published regional 'Preparation for Practice Placements' project and had the opportunity to present at the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Education Collaborative. We are excited to see what opportunities 2025/26 brings.
